the 14-year old title short is the standout feature offering here and its also the one which most worth the price. it re-introduces us to the constantine we know from comics history but this time they portray the character in a unique, gory, yet comedic and at times thoughtful manner which has been met with high praise for both the feature and constantine voice actor matt ryan. the short is presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio with a 1080p avc encoded transfer displaying a mostly solid presentation of the material, with only minor issues here or there. its a visually colorful and quite beautiful presentation that when combined with some solid dark and moody sound design and a score that stays consistently fast throughout puts this short in a league of its own.
though this release does offer three other recent titles from the watchmen-based line, only one of them really grabs your attention, that being the far superior tale of ollie queen, as the other two are quite a bit weaker than the others presented in the collection. the three titles here are very much what youd expect from the recent dc animated movie line with the longer features being more along the lines of the increased hollywood style storytelling of man of steel, while the shorter ones are closer to the original comic styling of the three shorts. still, this is fine as the presentation quality is consistently strong and for the price offered the releases are an excellent way to introduce new viewers to the unique constantine with a more refined style and the option to choose the one you prefer best.
the definitive dvd presentation of constantine: the house of mystery is actually available in other versions but the blu-ray is the best option you can get as well, with the option to upgrade to a combination of extras including audio commentary with series writers, voice actor matt ryan, producer/director paul wesley and screenwriter gary gerani, new audio commentary with both ryan and gerani, an episode guide insert, optional english sub-titles and a new featurette. while not offering anything earth-shattering in terms of new material, the featurette is a nice look at the production and the constantine character from the actors point of view while the other extras are something you wont find anywhere else. 3d9ccd7d82
