amdgpu the driver and kms is not the same as radeon. But the WINSYS portion that does the heavy lifting is radeon. What makes the drivers different is that radon does not support vulkan. The unofficial vulkan driver (radv) is exclusive to amdgpu. amdvlk is the official AMD vulkan driver, which also only works with amdgpu and the amdgpu ICDs.
Probably final edit: Ok so i went through several other distros booting from live usb and attempting to install, but they all fail at some point, usually around graphics stuff. Guess i should have considered getting the newer edition of something with proprititary drivers. Anyway im pretty sure each attempt broke something different so i found an iso for the xp version that i have the key for stickered to the top of the machine, gonna try and dual boot fresh. Ty for the part about the headers, i remember skimming over something about them once, and then ignoring it. that was probably my issue
ATI kernel driver fglrx is built with DKMS. Also try the latest experimental fglrx-experiment- fglrx-amdcccle-experimental-. (search via apt-cache search fglrx). if you have manually edit /etc/X11/Xorg.conf, try define the driver 'fglrx' in section 'Device'.
Hey bud i think it is a problem with an older motherboard with PCI 1 and trying to install a newer card PCI X 3. What you have to do is a custom install off the drivers and not a express install. if that dont work may have to get a PCI express 2.0 card and still do a express install. The same ploblem happened to me and it was saying error 10 standard video graphics (VGA) where the only drivers it would install. i think it may have been a compatability issue with the motherboard.
You would probably need to downgrade so many packages that I would strongly recommend continuing to use the in-kernel radeon driver, as it stayed in development for much longer and (combined with modern Mesa OpenGL) really offers decent performance.

Like I said in this topic I created -amd-radeon-r7-250-hdmi-working-in-mavericks/ I've got the card working fine except for HDMI audio and some freezings in preview for example when I open a HQ picture. Maybe the card just can't handle 3440x1440 properly. But I'm still using chameleon, because clover won't boot, no matter what graphics card I use. I also think I made clear which error occurs so I think I've done what I can.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the errorOpen the .blend should do it. This problem affects only old sculpted meshes ( Dyntopo and multires as well)There is no artifacts on this PC with Blender2.80. I have to confess as well that i really know nothing about drivers and so on. I follow the link above from @mano-wii (Thanks for that ) and install the latest version, now it is working without problem.When nowadays everyone is doing and uploading things behind your back ( in the background ), drivers are still behind with their manual work. I m pretty i have updated them in close to the beginning of summer.
